Corrales
Location: Florida
Type: Residential
Year: 2024
Concept:
Corrales Residence is conceived as a contemplative retreat embedded within an arid landscape. The architecture frames nature rather than competing with it, using precise openings to capture light, shadow, and horizon. The projecting volume becomes a viewing chamber—an intimate threshold between interior comfort and the vast exterior terrain.
Materiality:
Weathering steel cladding establishes a raw, earthy presence that evolves over time, echoing the tones of the surrounding environment. Smooth concrete walls provide mass and thermal stability, while expansive glazing introduces contrast through transparency and reflection. The restrained material palette reinforces durability, authenticity, and environmental integration.
Process Narrative:
The project began with site sensitivity—understanding sun exposure, wind patterns, and natural views. Volumes were positioned to create framed perspectives while maintaining privacy. The cantilevered projection was developed as a spatial device to extend living areas outward without disturbing the ground plane. Material selection prioritized aging gracefully within harsh climatic conditions, ensuring the residence strengthens its relationship with the landscape over time.
